Four hundred years after his birth, the Sevillan painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo is still alive in many corners of Sevilla. That is the mark that the «Murillo Year» intends to leave in Sevilla and all the travelers who want to approach the colossal patrimony left by the painter in his hometown, can visit his house - converted into a museum. This house where he lived and died, in the neighborhood of Santa Cruz, is the place where the great baroque genius left his legacy or was inspired. The building, located at Santa Teresa street 8, offers all the necessary information to soak up Murillo's heritage, to understand better all his artistic contributions and to know thoroughly the 17th century in Sevilla, where he became one of the great masters of universal painting.
The House-Museum of Murillo was the penultimate residence of the artist, where he lived as a recognized painter and where he worked the last years of his life. Murillo worked and lived in Sevilla, apart from a brief stay at the Madrid court in 1658. Therefore, in addition to his exceptional talent and extreme sensitivity, he was able to capture the spirit of his city like no other artist! There is a screening room with the documentary "Murillo, the last trip", which is broadcast twice a day and an interactive center with all the information about the canvases that are conserved in the city and the reproductions of his works that were plundered. In total, there are 21 points that can be visited using an audio guide in Spanish and English that can be purchased at Casa Murillo for 11 euros. There is no need to return it, it´s is an mp3 that the visitors can take with them. There are 58 original works and 103 reproductions in the House-Museum of Murillo.
The House-Museum of Murillo is opened from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 am to 8 pm. On Sundays and holidays, it´s opened from 10 am to 6 pm, closed on Monday. The entrance is free.
